2、bstract Abstract With China's reform and opening up over the past 20 years, earth-shaking changes have taken place in political, economic, cultural and social life. However, we must also realize the costs we have pai
3、d for the economic development --- heavy consumption of resources, environmental pollution and ecological damage, etc. We have to look back and reflect on our development through a re-examination of the relationship betw
4、een man and nature so as to establish an eco-system of moral values that adapts to the contemporary society and keeps in harmony with the nature. This requires a re-positioning of the content and teaching methods of mora
5、l education. Taoist thinking of the Order, with its ecological and moral educational ideologies, approaches and means, unfolds a number of stunning modern ecological thoughts of moral education and thus, provides preciou
6、s ideological resource for the building of oriental civilized ecological civilization. With regard to the content of moral education in ecology, the Taoist “Road“ as the highest natural and human aspects has the follow
7、ing features: it takes “Imitation of Nature“ as the supreme criterion; it stresses that man should take “inaction“ as the basic principles in the treatment of human nature and all things; in addition, it endows excellenc
8、e to the true nature and embodies the fundamental idea of the harmonious coexistence and cooperation between man and nature. Taoist ecological and moral education contains 1) the ecological values of “Imitation of Natur
9、e“, 2) the ecological concept of equality as in “all things belong to a whole “, 3) the ecological consumption concept of “being content with one’s lot“, 4) the ecological aesthetics of “advocating nature“, and 5) the ec
10、o-practice concept of “inaction cooperation“. All the above thoughts constitute the important components of contemporary ecological and moral education. Meanwhile, the moral education approach of “speechless teaching” in
11、itiated by Taoist also reveals its uniqueness and has special theoretical value to the ecological and moral education. The major ecological moral education methods include “the model law” and “the environmental edifying”
12、. The “hidden channels” also has its significance in contemporary ecological moral education practice. In sum, it is of great importance to show concern to and analyze the content, approaches, and methods of the ecologic
13、al moral education. By absorbing new messages and deserting the old-fashioned, we can make good use of and modernize it. This paper is an in-depth investigation based on the theory in related disciplines as well as the a
14、uthor's ecological and moral education practice conducted in the army. With the exception of the introduction part, four chapters of this thesis elaborate on the ecological and moral education of Taoism and its moder
15、n value, and discuss the way to absorb the reasonable elements in Taoist ecological morality education in order to construct ecological characteristics of oriental civilization. Undoubtedly, there are certain limitations
