2、nt position in western history of arts. So taking a research on Christian imagery art works shows great significance in such art, religion, society and culture and so on. Whereas until now, the research on this point is
3、fairly rare, taking the art of painting as an example, the common material is either by noting the paintings with the Bible story, or by album of paintings on the Bible. While just very few material takes an analysis on
4、composition and some other painting elements. In this paper, some trying focusing on the one common subject-the crucifixion of Christ, is adopted. Historically, the works of literature and art on crucifixion of Christ ar
5、e too many to enumerate, yet their composition basis and sources both originate from the Bible. In this paper, the Bible is the main parallel text to the research on the paintings. The thematic subdivision constitutes th
6、e basis of the research, here nine sub-themes is obtained according by compared analysis on the descriptions of the crucifixion of Christ in the Four Gospels and treatment on this event in the painting tradition. When in
7、vestigating the painting style on the crucifixion of Christ, the pattern painting formed in the Bible text and the faith tradition confinement are summarized in the composition and figurines two aspects, the style evolut
8、ion of the crucifixion of Christ painting in the following aspects, i.e. from nonobjective to objective and again to nonobjective, from godhead to humanity and again to godhead and from line-drawing plotted to painting a
9、nd then to multi-element drawings, are summarized from the view of history evolution. As a head in the crucifixion of Christ painting, the view on socio-cultural shows some deviation from the art of painting, so external
10、 image and mental image are elaborated from purely iconography view when investigating his image. And an introduction to the cross and its symbolic significance in the subject of the crucifixion of Christ painting end th
