2、omingpacketswiththepatternsestablishedthroughaccesscontrolrulesanIDSsystemcanidentifydetectwkattackstakeproactiveresponses.HoweveroneofthemajchallengesfanIDSisthatitseffectivenessisonlyasgoodastherulesthatcollectivelydef
3、inetheprofilesofalltheattacksitiscapableofcapturing.Thedetectionknowledgeasembodiedintherulescanbeincompleteinconsistentdeficientnotwelldefinedmakingthewkdefenselesseffectivestillvulnerablesufferingfromrealtimeperfmanced
4、egradation.InthispaperweuseSntasabacktofmallydefineeighteentypesofknowledgedeficienciesthatcanbefoundinanIDSdescribeapproachestoautomaticallydetectthoseknowledgedeficienciesproposeresolutionalgithmstoeliminatethedeficien
5、ciesinanattempttoincrementallyimprovethequalityofitswkdefenseknowledge.OurultimategoalistorelyonperpetuallearningtoautomaticallyconsistentlycontiuouslyimproveanIDS’swkdefenseperfmanceovertime.IndexTerms—IntrusionDetectio

7、anceofwksecurityprotection.Intrusiondetectionsystems(IDS)arepartofthewksecurityinfrastructuredesignedtoprovidetimelydetectionofvariousmaliciousattackstakeproactiveresponsestosafeguardawksystem.Therearewkintrusiondetectio
8、nsystems(NIDS)hostbasedintrusiondetectionsystems(HIDS)[1].NIDSfocusesonmonitingwktraffictoidentifyattacksmaliciousactivities.HIDSontheotherhmonitscriticaloperatingsystemfilesfsuspiciousactivities.TwomainapproachesexistfI
9、DSdetectionprocess:signaturebaseddetectionanomalybaseddetection.Signaturebaseddetectionrecognizespatternsofattacksmaliciousactivitiesregardsanythingelsethatdoesnotmatchthepatternsasgood.Ontheotherhanomalybaseddetectionis
10、basedonestablishedmodelsofgoodbehavisregardsanyactivitydeviatingfromthemodelsasbad[1].Bothdetectionapproacheshoweverdependonutilizingrulestodefinepatternsmodels.ThusoneofthemajchallengesfanIDSisthatitseffectivenessisonly
11、asgoodastherulesthatcollectivelydefinetheprofiles(patternsmodels)ofalltheknownintrusionsvulnerabilitiesirregularitiesitiscapableofcapturing.Thedetectionknowledgeasembodiedintherulescanbeincompleteinconsistentdeficientnot
12、welldefinedmakingthewkdefenselesseffectivestillvulnerablesufferingfromrealtimeperfmancedegradation.AsknownattacksmaliciousactivitiescanbecapturedaspatternsthesignaturebasedIDSwillhavehighaccuracylowerrateofmissingreptsfk
13、nownattacks.HoweverfnewunknownattacksthesignaturebasedapproachwilloftensufferfromlowaccuracyconflictsthatmayexistinIDS.[14]introducedalgithmstosolveruleconflictsinSntbyconstructingpolicytree.[13][15]gavethetypescriteriao
14、fconflictsbyfmalmethodinIDS.InthispaperWefocusontheruleinconsistenciesinSntwhichhasseveralsalientfeatureswhencomparedwiththerelatedstudiesasmentionedabove.1)ThispapertakesspecificIDSproducttheSntasresearchobject.Wearenot
15、onlyconcernedwithconventionalpacketheaderfields(protocolsourceIPsourceptdestinationptdestinationIP)butalsofocusonotherinterestingfieldssuchastheTTLfieldoftheIPprotocolthefragbitstheflagfieldoftheTCPprotocoltheitypefieldo
