2、 of China. But this kind of image has been misinterpreted to some extent. In hundreds of years of the movie history, Hollywood, which is the most active member in the process of movie produ

3、cing, publishing and the disseminating, plays an inestimable role. Therefore, the image of China in Hollywood movies has exerted a tremendous influence on western public understanding of China.

4、So the research on the image of China in Hollywood movies is very necessary. This article analyzes the evolution and main characters of the image of China in Hollywood movies by collecting a

5、nd researching on concrete film text. The full article divides into three chapters. In chapter 1,discusses the archetype of image of China in the American Hollywood movies in the western cult

6、ure, and also analyzes the evolution of the image in the western history and culture. Chapter 2 mainly discusses the evolution of the image from the birth of the film to the end of the Co

7、ld War. In the initial period of the history of movie, most of the movies were the documentary films, which attracted the West filmmakers and audience with its historical factors. Such vivid

8、 prototypes become the foundation of the image of China in later Hollywood movies. According to the study of the Hollywood movies, we will easily find that the image of China molding by thes

9、e movies is deeply related with Sino- U.S. Relation. Through the analysis of the evolution of the image in these movies, we can find the characteristics of the image of China molding in the

10、 Hollywood movies. The third chapter illustrates the image of China in Hollywood over the past two decades. During this period the image of China in Hollywood movies differs greatly from that

11、 of the past. Because in this period, Sino- US relation has experienced some exchanges and formed a complex situation which is both cooperative and confrontational. Key words: mirror of the oth
