The measurement of muon life-time is very significant in experimental meth

2、od. Based on PLD(Programmable Logic Device),we have designed a new method and instrument to measure the life-time of muon from cosmic rays. The new instrument record the decay time of the muon which decay in the scintill

3、ator, and send the data to the computer with the USB interface. This paper introduces the principle and describes the design of the circuit board and the logic of PLD, as well as the debugging of the hardware. The summar

4、y of the results we measured is also discussion. Our examination proved that the instrument is able to measure muon life-time in an acceptance precision and works stably. The result is 2189±70 ns with the precision

5、of 1%. The new method is more effectual and convenient which needs fewer detectors and has an easier way to acquire the data compared to the traditional way. This instrument can also be used in other life-time measured e

6、xperiment. My job in this research included the design of the principle of the new instrument, the design and debug of the PCB circuit, the logic for CPLD in VHDL Language, and the interface between the PCB and a compute
