11、以來,深受全世界孩子的喜愛,也是一部不可多得的適合成人閱讀的童話故事。對(duì)《小王子》的研究有很多方面,例如:作品背景,作者的雙重形象,象征創(chuàng)作等等。本文通過案例分析法、歸納法、文本分析法對(duì)《小王子》進(jìn)行分析,深入探討各個(gè)意象中的象征意義,從時(shí)代背景個(gè)性理解象征的內(nèi)在含義,同時(shí),通過分析象征中的意象可以理解其中的哲理。整部作品由一個(gè)個(gè)或直白、或隱晦、或復(fù)雜的象征組成,向讀者展示了作者的人生智慧。筆者通過細(xì)細(xì)研讀《小王子》,分析文中具有代表性

13、int-Exupéry, a French writer, attracts children’s affection all over the world. It is also a rare fairy tale that is suitable for adults. There are numerous ways in studying The Little Prince, such as the study of t

14、he work’s background, dual-image of the author and symbolic writing. This essay is to analyze this work by using case analysis method, induction, and textual analysis method. Through exploring the symbols, the writer can

15、 understand th</p><p>  Key Words The Little Prince; symbol; philosophy of life</p><p>  1.Introduction</p><p>  The Little Price is written by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, a Fre

16、nch writer. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is not only an aeroplanist, but also a children’s author. Antoine loved adventure and freedom. When he was a little boy, he was a good thinker and liberalist. He was attracted by

17、 his aviation career. He opened up many new channel airlines during his service period. During the second world war, he enlisted in the army bravely to the country, and he devoted his life to his country unfortunately. H

18、e h</p><p>  This work is a fairy tale containing rich philosophy. It is a story full of wisdom and real human nature, expressing the author’s rational thinking of the outside world and inner world. The symb

19、olic writing has general and approval connation and is studied by domestic and foreign scholars more than once. However, the selected topic is to break the tradition. By analyzing The Little Prince, the writer excavates

20、the meaning of a new era of symbols, and analyzes them in particular view so that more</p><p>  This essay is to analyze the representative symbols in different classification in order to dissect the author’

21、s philosophy of life in my own opinion by careful reading. The essay includes four parts. The fist part is introduction to the topic, purpose and the frame. The second one is literature review. Text analysis is the foll

22、owed part. The last part comes the conclusion.</p><p>  2. Literature Review</p><p>  The symbol research started in ancient Greece period, lasting two thousand years. The study of western symbo

23、l theory has four stages: The budding period of ancient Greece, Medieval one-sided development stage, the characteristic development of the 18th and the 19th century, Diversified development stage in the late 19th centur

24、y and early 20th century. In late 19 century, the European intellectuals dissatisfied with the temporal social life and the official salon culture. They used symbols to mak</p><p>  In the early 20s, in the

25、rise of China’s new literature, Modern symbolism works had been introduced in quantity. In 1920, Mao Dun began to introduce and translate modern symbolism literatures. Similarly, Lu Xun had a symbol of creative practice

26、after the May 4th Movement. During 1926, symbolism had been presented. Briefly concluded that the development of theory of symbolization experience three stages: budding occurs, tortuous development and hard innovation.&

27、lt;/p><p>  Since the advent of The Little Prince, praised as “The French Rose”, it has been loved by children and adults. Nowadays, many authors have elaborated the connotation of The Little Prince in differen

28、t points of view, such as the view of “l(fā)ife philosophy and modern significance”, “l(fā)ove and responsibility”, “the relationship of children and adults”. In 1967, Paul studied the life and death of the little prince. He tho

29、ught that the little prince’s living and death symbolized the life experience of A</p><p>  As the time went by, the study of symbolic writing tends to be mature. Many aspects are studied deeply. For example

30、, the history of symbolic writing has been studied for many times. The purpose of the symbol is also researched widely. However, the function of the symbol can be investigated. In future research, we can study the images

31、’ roles to promote the research progress.</p><p>  3. Two Kinds of Symbolic Writing in Different Levels</p><p>  Every single symbol in The Little Prince contains abundant meaning. According to

32、the symbol of objective corresponding scale, there are two classes: the symbolic meaning of physical world and that of mental world. And the former includes two levels. The first level is the straightforward and transpar

33、ent symbolic meaning, and the second one is the complex and difficult symbolic meaning. In the first level, the king, the drunkard, the businessman, the lamplighter, and the geographer are flat chara</p><p>

34、  3.1. The Symbolic Meaning of Physical World</p><p>  This part is divided into two levels. The straightforward and transparent symbolic meaning is the first level while the second one is the complex and di

35、fficult symbolic meaning. The king, the drunkard, the businessman, the lamplighter, and the geographer are flat characters who can be labeled easily in the first level, so these symbols are not difficult to be understood

36、. Nevertheless, the rose, the snake and the fox symbolize love, death and friendship. These symbols need intensive study. The de</p><p>  3.1. 1. The Straightforward and Transparent Symbolic Meaning</p>

37、;<p>  In the straightforward and transparent symbolic meaning, people in the planets which the little prince pays a visit are representative. The little prince visits the first planet, there lives a king, the onl

38、y person on this planet. Because of little prince’s coming, this king has a courtier eventually. He says, “…I order you yawn.”, “I order you ask me…” The king can not wait to exercise his rights. The king’s absurd remark

39、s displays that people are addicted to power.</p><p>  The person on the second planet symbolizes vanity. He says frivolously, “Oh! There comes a person who is my adorer!” Looking at little prince’s coming,

40、he shouts in the distance, “Let me be happy. Please admire me!” This kind of people only needs nothing but praise. </p><p>  Later, the little prince arrives at the third planet, he comes across a drunkard a

41、nd asks curiously why he drinks. “To drink for forgetting my shame.” The drunkard throws the little prince this answer. The prince asks then, “What sham is?” “I shame I drink.” He responds to the little prince. Such an r

42、idiculous adult makes children not easy to understand. Indeed, adults educate children absolutely. At the same time, they make excuses for their laziness, greed, and selfishness. These are very ludi</p><p> 

43、 There is a businessman living on the fourth planet. He is busy in calculating numbers, and his life meaning is that he can be in possession of more stars. When the prince asks what to do with so many stars, the business

44、man answers, “Nothing to do, but they are all belong to me.” There is no doubt that the businessman is a symbol of greedy. His life is only to satisfy his greed psychological needs. With regard to the question “What good

45、 things can you do for yourself and for the world by having t</p><p>  A lamplighter lives on the fifth planet. One lamp is so small. The lamplighter lights on the lamp at night, and puts it out in the dayti

46、me day by day. He dedicates to his own work. However, the running speed of this planet turns to be faster than before, so that he should light on and up the lamp in every minute. Even if he is tired, he does not change a

47、nymore for the reason that “This is an order.” Completing what you have to do is worthy of compliment, but aimless, stuff, and lack of alternati</p><p>  A geographer lives on the sixth planet all day long.

48、He writes books. It seemsd that he has high geography attainments. Nevertheless, he knows nothing when asks the geographical conditions of where he lives. It is a symbol of the unrealistic pedant behind closed doors. The

49、se characters are distinct, formatting ukiyoe in adult’s world. They are greedy, vain, blind, and ridiculous. So he does not make sense by the little prince. As a result, as for adults, the little prince considers, “Do n

50、ot insi</p><p>  3.1.2. The Symbols with Complex and Difficult Meaning</p><p>  Rose, snake, and fox are the symbols of the need to ponder. The rose is delicate and charming, accompanying the li

51、ttle prince on the B612 planet. Because she is frail and beautiful, the prince is with great care to caress her. Yet, the rose takes this care for granted. She is not only without gratitude ,but also always puts forward

52、new requirements. For example, “It is time for breakfast. Please think about preparing a little for me…” “I hate ventilation badly. Don’t you have screen?” In the end</p><p>  Snake is a symbol of death. The

53、 little prince fist encounters snake on earth after he sees all aspects of the world. The prince asks the snake how to ruin his life in that he has saw all the ungainliness of the grown-ups. Seemingly, it is a miserable

54、ending, but actually, it is the liberation of the little prince. And death, in the author’s view, is unavoidable. Death is not finality, but the only way to paradise. </p><p>  The fox is the symbol of love

55、and wisdom. After he teaches the prince taming, which means establishing contact with the real feelings, they forges bonds of deep friendship. It lets him feel happy for having a friend. In the meanwhile, he tells the pr

56、ince life wisdom, “People can only use heart to watch. Also, Essential things are not to be seen by naked eyes. ” </p><p>  The Bible says “desert is the difficult environment where we live, and the camel i

57、s the confidence. People can go through the difficulties relying on the confidence of the Lord.” However, “Desert” is the symbol of the paradise on earth because desert is a sparsely populated land. It is suitable for pe

58、ople to rethink and daydream in order to fulfill the blend and transformation of reality and imagination. Life atmosphere includes sky, stars, silence and night. In my eye, desert just like the sky </p><p> 

59、 The “Snake Venom” is the symbol of the beginning of new life. Snake was an animal of the best and worst attributes in ancient Israel. Israelis revere snake. The snake’s poison fang is strong enough to kill a person. How

60、ever, snake also symbolizes life. It can be verified in the Old Testament. The story’s ending is so sad. The little prince understands the essence of love, but he finds he can’t take his body back. He wanders where he la

61、nds, missing his rose. In these days, he looks up at the star</p><p>  3.2. The Symbolic Meaning of Mental World</p><p>  This part includes two parts. It involves human’s inner world and the no

62、vel’s writing background, so it’s profound. The fist part is the little prince standing for the author’s dream. The little prince’s inner world is its symbol. However, the symbol of the second part is the contradiction r

63、elationship between adults and children. These images are constituted corresponding relationship with the little prince. The author’s values are shown through the corresponding images.</p><p>  3.2.1. The Li

64、ttle Prince Standing for Author’s Dream</p><p>  The little prince who lives on the B612 planet is the main character in this story. One day, he leaves his home and pays a visit to other planets where live a

65、 wide range of people representing the ugliness in adult’s world. The author wrote this story during World War II. He took part in the war, and witnessed the bloody war and human cruelty. On the contrary, the little prin

66、ce is pure and unpolluted, and he is the very embodiment of love. The author uses a clean image of children to provide a f</p><p>  “I”, actually, is an embodiment of the author in this story. They are both

67、pilots. “I” is a guide line, leading the little prince to his words out of his mouth. The pilot, a combination of contradiction, likes adults holding the heart of a child. Wandering desire and ideal of childhood in his m

68、ind, he is “woken up” by the little prince once when he guides his actions in adults’ thinking. “You are not clear of everything…You always get things together.” That is the little prince’s shouting. When </p><

69、;p>  3.2.2. The Contradiction Relationship Between the Inner Worlds of Children and Adults</p><p>  “If you tell the adults, ‘I see a beautiful and pink house with hydrangea sitting on the window and pige

70、ons standing on the roof…’ They can’t image what a nice house it is. So you have to tell them , ‘I see a house costing thousand francs.’ At that time, they will shout, ‘how beautiful the house is!’ ” This example indicat

71、es that language symbol system is not as important as that of the adults. Adults like numbers. When the little prince uses poetic language to ask questions, the olds can’t comp</p><p>  There is no doubt tha

72、t the little prince belongs to the kids world without any restraint and shackle. There are some standards of right and wrong and unique evaluation system, which are different from ordinary people. That “boa devours an el

73、ephant is unequal to hat” is a good example to express it. Adults are ridiculous for the reason that they treat it as a hat. Actually, the logic of the story develops according to the children’s adult language evolution.

74、 Children’s world is pure while adults’</p><p>  4. Conclusion</p><p>  The Little Prince successfully utilizes a series of symbols, which surprises many readers. Different experiences and harve

75、st can be gained after reading it time after time. In addition, the author’s unique view and his independent character shown in this fairy tale make it develop a school of its own. Adults with mental defects image, descr

82、he satisfying answers. </p><p>  ④Has the little prince arrived on earth? Actually, he just arrives at the desert, which is not equal to the earth. There are so many people on earth, but almost no one lives

83、on desert. So the desert is not on behalf of the earth. Hence, the little prince is not polluted by human beings.</p><p>  Totally, the symbols in this story are of the distinct features, and they combine fa
