2、ologies digitalized ancient art works, they facilitated archives keeping and saving, and culture broadcasting; Therefore, many researchers paid attention to enhance visitors’ learning experiences inside a museum hall o
3、r on an online museum[3]. IoT (Internet of the things) and smart mobile devices make information more reachable and richer than ever. End users are able to access network, web archives and information anytime and any
4、where. Recently, iBeacon devices are very popular in business fields, particularly in retail field. iBeacon is an excellent indoor positioning device, based on Bluetooth technology. iBeacon is used to push on sale i
5、nformation to customer in commercial fields. Customers who have installed certain App will get guidance information about goods by personal smart phones. iBeacon as an low energy device, works 2-4 years with a little
6、 cell battery. We can put Beacon device at anywhere we want as long as there have networks. With iBeacon and smart phone APP, items will be smart to detect visitors around them in a certain area, and push item informa
7、tion to visitors. AR (Augmented Reality) technologies are widely used in business ways and entertainments, education, emulation in different scenarios. Based on AR, people rebuilt historic heritages, and protected di
8、gital culture heritages. They pushed information of cultural ancient relics to visitors. With HMD (Helmet-Mounted Displayers) visitors are able to not only get plaint text introductions of the ancient heritages, but a
9、lso see the details about rebuilt parts. Many merits of AR make it available for us to illustrate rich media contents of local culture and historic heritages in museum [4]. This research proposed a local culture pro
10、tection system design, which is on the basis of smart items-an iBeacon and APP in smart devices. By APP, smart items are able to provide visitors with multimedia information and knowledge. II. RELATED TECHNOLOGIES iB
11、eacon Technology iBeacon technology is launched by Apple at the conference WWDC ( Apple Worldwide Developers Conference ) in 2013. It is one of the open Bluetooth Low Energy technologies, which is used in business are
12、as widely. iBeacon, as a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLW) device broadcasts data packets in a certain regions at certain time intervals, the applications in smart devices(cell phones, PDA or iPad etc.) will get trigged whil

14、rsity, Japan144 InS 4.3In order to get Augmented Reality objects developed quickly, some software development kit (SDK) appeared. ARToolKit [9], a software library for building AR applications, includes overlay of vi
15、rtual imagery or objects on the real word background via computer vision algorithms to trace the users’ viewpoint in order to draw the virtual objects on the displayer scene where the users are looking at. ARToolKit
16、 SDK is popular used. In addition, Mobinett AR, Metaio also provide well known SDKs. III. SMART ITERMS DESIGN Usually, visitors’ behavors are appreciable inside certain area by iBeacon, detected by APP in smart device
17、 as well as WiFi. Smart items should be able to perceive visitors’ behaviors and make the right response. We proposed smart items design based on application of iBeacon. Smart items basically have three characterist
18、ics shown by Fig.3. Smart item is composed of iBeacon and APP in visitors’ smart device. It is able to perceive visitor’s existence, get visitors’ location as well as judging visitor’s preference by distance between
19、the item and the visitor, residence time a visitor stay around a certain item. Fig. 3. Illustration of smart item 1) Perceive existence of individuals around them Beacon sends BLE at intervals all the time, if anybod
20、y entered this region with smart devices, the APP installed in smart device beforehand will be triggered by detected BLE form Beacons. An iBeacon can be placed beside a culture artworks or an ancient historic spot,
21、visitors’ smart phone APP will detect the BLE, and push corresponding knowledge about this item to the smart phone. 2) Perceive individual’s location and provide navigation service An indoor navigation service is a
22、vailable based on three or more than three Estimate iBeacons. (Fig.4.) When a visitor enters a special region in the museum hall, the APP in smart device will detect the strength of BLE from different iBeacons, and c
23、alculate the distance between visitor and different iBeacons. We are able to get visitor’s position info inside the hall, and navigate visitors inside museum or an area. At the same time we can push relative knowledge
24、about the closest items at real time. Fig. 4. Location by 3 Estimate iBeacons 3) Detect individual’s preference If a visitor is interested in some item in the exhibition, they will be stay in front of the item for
25、a little longer time, or stay there for some while, and even trying to find more about it by approaching closer to it. The visitor might retrieve key words on line, share photos or relative links with friends on Socia
26、l Media. All these behaviors will take some time. Therefore, the APP will detect iBeacon signals and calculate visitor’s residence time. The distance between the visitor and the item is another measurement value of
27、 visitor’s preference. Usually, when someone visits a collection or local historic relics, he will read the brief introduction, and go around it to observe some details by closer to it. Let’s make a hypothesis, valu
28、e t means residence time in second, d means distance between item and visitor in centimeter, the judgment will be made according to the criteria below: We judge the preference or interests to a certain item by two co
29、nstraint conditions: Residence time is greater than or equals to 60 seconds, meanwhile, the distance is greater than 0, and less than or equals to 100 cm. If both of these two conditions are true, we think that the
30、visitor is interested in this item, and then, push him more information of the item, and Triggered AR APP in smart devices. And then, visitors are able to scan fiducial markers besides the item. The AR APP will tell m
31、ore about this item by interaction between 3D models and real world experiments. Else, we think the visitor has no interests to the item, and only push brief introduce via visitor’s application in smart devices on
32、site. With iBeacon and the criteria above, our item associated with iBeacon will have ability to detect the individual’s preference at real time, and then make corresponding responds. IV. LOCAL CULTURE PROTECTION SYST
