2、 and adventures. Special and rich life experiences are one of important reasons why Hemingway has war theme in mind. His long novels The Sun Also Rises and A Farewell to Arms are classic works with wars as their themes.

3、A Farewell to Arms is a representative anti-war novel in Hemingway’s early literary career. It sets in World War I, with love as its main clue, and reflects brutality and evil of the imperialist war. It profoundly disclo

4、ses destruction of war on men’s homeland and its eternal impact on an entire generation spiritually and psychologically. The novel reveals Hemingway’s extremely disgust at war and his strong condemnation of it. A Farewel

5、l to Arms has caused a strong reaction since its publication. Critics have made great achievements, however, researches and comments on the novel mainly focus on its theme, characterization, language characteristic, writ

6、ing style and so on. In recent years, the emergence and development of eco-feminist criticism has injected an invigorating vein for research on Hemingway and his works. Hemingway and his works have entered the vision of

7、 eco-feminist literary critics. Eco-feminism attacks traditional dualistic thinking mode such as human/nature, male/female duality, and opposes strongly all forms of domination and oppression. Eco-feminists believe that

8、the relationship between man and nature, male and female, individuals and society are of inter-dependence and reciprocity. Eco-feminists strive to overcome patriarchal way of thinking with its aim to achieve a new, healt

9、hy and balanced society in which man and nature, male and female, individuals and society are in harmony. In the 1990s eco-feminism finally made itself felt in literary studies. Eco-feminist literary criticism has brough

10、t “a green revolution” for literary criticism, and provided new methods and points of view for literary studies. However, few efforts have been devoted to the study of Hemingway’s eco-feminist consciousness embodied in A
